Pictures & Logos to Promote your Animals & Operation

There are 3 types of images that you may wish to include to promote your animals & operation in a sale, semen or private treaty catalog or just in general. If you do not already have a graphics editing software package for your computer then you will need to install one. There are many available and one that is fairly straight-forward and simple to learn how to use is called Paint Shop Pro. A 30-day evaluation program is available for downloading from the Web from http://www.jasc.com/download_4.asp. If you should choose to use this software, then you will need to pay for it and register it after 30 days.

Farm Logo: Logos can be displayed for your account as a Logo Ad for only $50 per year.  This type of Ad is similar to a seedstock directory ad in Hereford World Magazine, except that due to size limitations it is recommended that the logo you submit only contain basic graphic elements such as initials, brands, etc.  Full contact details for your operation are provided through owner and breeder links of your animals.  If you subscribe to the Logo Advertising, your logo will show on the animal details page of every animal you own that is encountered in a search and if we have website address information on file for your account, then your Logo Ad will become a link directly to your website.

The Image file for your Logo should be no bigger than approximately 110 pixels in height or width (ie, it should fit entirely within a box of 110 by 110 pixels).  This is necessary so that we can properly display the logos for as many as 4 owners per animal.  A gif image is the most suitable file type here, as the logo will usually be a graphic of some kind. It looks best if the image is made with a transparent background, but if you are unable to do this, you can fill the background with white.

The file name for this image should be:    memb_xxxxxxx_logo.gif
where the "x" represents your member number

Small Animal Pictures: Small animal pictures can be displayed for selected lots in your catalog or for all animals in your catalog for $3 per lot if submitted electronically or $10 per lot if image scanning is required.  Additionally, you can submit pictures for any animals that you wish whether they are included in a catalog or not.  Animal images that are submitted outside of being listed in a catalog can be posted for $5 when submitted electronically or $10 if image scanning is required.  Once an animal image has been posted, it will be displayed for the animal for an indefinite amount of time.  It can be substituted for another picture at any point that the owner(s) of the animals wish to do so for the appropriate charge.

Small images of individual animals will usually be a photograph, so a jpeg is the appropriate file type. Maximum dimensions for this image is approximately 220 pixels wide by 160 pixels high. (Using compression, combined with the small file size should mean that the image will download quickly). This image will appear on the animal details page for the animal, and give a snapshot of what the animal looks like. If a large image is available, this small image will become a “hot link”, so that by clicking on it, you can bring up the large image of that animal. Note that the file must be named with the animal’s registration number.

The file name for this image should be:    zzzzzzzz.jpg
where the "z" represents the animal's registration number

Large Animal Pictures: As noted above, if you would like to submit an image of your animal that displays as a larger image on screen, then you may do so.  Because the link to this image is generated by the smaller image file mentioned earlier, both image types must be submitted.  Large animal pictures can be displayed for selected lots in your catalog or for all animals in your catalog for $3 per lot.  Animal images that are submitted outside of being listed in a catalog can be posted for $5.

Large animal images are an enlarged version of the small animal image. File sizes for the large animal images should not exceed 750 by 575 pixels (of course the actual dimensions will depend on the proportions of the images that you have available). The name must match the name for the second image exactly, but be suffixed by _L (for “large”).

The file name for this image should be:    zzzzzzzz_L.jpg
where the "z" represents the animal's registration number

Note: If you are unable to follow these steps, please send hard copy of your pictures or logo to the AHA and once pictures are scanned they will be returned to you.

The file specifications mentioned above are summarized in the table below.

Note: that maximum file dimensions must be adhered to. Some images will be impossible to fit in these dimensions (particularly if the photo is shot vertically, rather than horizontally) and every attempt will be made to allow the picture to be used. However, no guarantees can be made regarding their use.
