Instructions for Using the AHA
Animal & EPD Search Forms
With these search facilities, you can locate animals from the latest North American Cattle Evaluation based upon criteria such as name, Registration number, sire, dam or EPD criteria just to name a few. Any combination of the criteria discussed below can be used for each search you conduct.
Name
All or part of the name of the animal can be used. The search is not
case specific.
Registration Number
You may also search for
animals by their Registration number. When searching for multiple animals
at a time, do so by registration number, entering multiple registration numbers
in this field separated by commas.
NOTE: When conducting searches by registration number, use the numeric portion of the registration number only. Do not use any prefixes such as P, X, etc.
Calving Year
Use birth year as a search criteria by entering a birth year as YYYY.
Listing Type
Listing Types help identify if the animals you are looking for are can be found
in one or more categories which can provide additional information. List
Types are described as follows:
Any - No specific list associated with this option, your search will be
across the entire animal database.
Published in Sire Summary - Sires that have been published in the AHA's
printed sire summary can be identified using this list type. To search for
sires in specific sections of the sire also use the appropriate "Select
If" criteria below.
Currently Listed for Sale - Animals that can be found in the online sale
catalogs or online private treaty catalogs.
Listed in Semen Catalog - Bulls that can be found in the online semen
catalogs with semen and certificate pricing information.

Three identical scrolling Select If fields are provided, each containing the same criteria. Therefore, up to three different "select if" criteria can be used at a time providing you up to up to 1,000 different combinations of useful animal descriptions to use in conducting your searches.
Horn Status
Limit your search to animals that are only horned or polled or choose both
for no such restriction.
Sire Name
You can search for animals by sire lines using the sire's recorded name.
Dam
Name
You can search for animals by dam lines using the dam's recorded name.
EPDs (not seen when using the animal search form)
You may enter search criteria for all, none, or as many of these variables
as you like. Animals may be selected on EPDs that fall between the minimum
(Min) and maximum (Max) ranges that you desire.
For example, entering 35 in the Min Weaning Weight EPD field while leaving the Max field blank, will select all animals with a Weaning Weight EPD greater than or equal to 35 lbs. If you wish to identify any animals with no more than 2 lbs. of Birth Weight EPD, then enter 2 in the Max Birth Weight EPD field and leave the Min field blank.
Minimum Accuracy
If you wish to set certain thresholds on the level of accuracy of animals you
wish to see returned in the results of your search, you can set that level of
accuracy using this field for the appropriate trait or all traits. You can
used differing levels of minimum accuracy for as many traits as you wish.
You do not need to enter the decimal point typically seen in reported
accuracies, enter a whole number (e.g., for accuracy reported as .60, you would
enter 60)
Sorting
You can sort the specified animals based upon the range of fields found
in the scrolling Sort field at the bottom of the input screen.
Printing
If you decide to print the results, and they do not fit across the page
then there are two ways you can try. First, try changing the page layout
of your printer to landscape. This will print the page sideways giving
much more room across the page.
Second, you could reduce the font size in your browser to make it fit. In Netscape this is done by going to the Options menu, selecting General Preferences, then going to the Fonts page and clicking on the Choose Font button for the Use the Proportional Font setting.
